ULCERATIVE COLITIS - An inflammatory disease that involves the colon and rectum. Also referred to as colitis. The incidence of ulcerative colitis is 5 to 8 per 100,000 population. Common symptoms include bouts of recurrent rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, and bloody diarrhea.
