THROMBOCYTOPENIC PURPURA - An immunologic disorder that results in a low platelet count (thrombocytopenia). Also known as idiopathic (unknown cause) thrombocytopenic purpura, this illness most often follows a viral upper respiratory infection. Patients present with hemorrhages into the skin (purpura). May be seen in association with lupus.
