SYSTOLIC MURMUR - A sound that is produced by the turbulent flow of blood during the phase of ventricular contraction. The finding of a systolic murmur on physical examination can suggest a heart valve abnormality (e.g. aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation, etc.).
