STAPHYLOCOCCUS - A genus of bacteria that has nonpathogenic species that are normally inhabitants on the skin surface. Other pathogenic species of staphylococcus (S. aureus) can cause severe sepsis, pneumonia, endocarditis, and soft tissue infections.
