SCIATICA - A disorder that results when a prolapsed intervertebral disc compresses the sciatic nerve. Symptoms include: pain radiating down the lateral aspect of the leg (and buttock) to the foot, numbness or tingling in one leg (and possible muscle weakness). Corticosteroids or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents are often prescribed.
