RETINITIS PIGMENTOSA - A chronic progressive disease that has it's onset in early childhood. It is characterized by degeneration of the retinal epithelium (rods and cones), atrophy the optic nerve, and widespread pigmentary changes within the retina. An early symptom is defective night vision followed by constriction in the field of vision.
