REMISSION - This term usually refers to a period of time when a disease (often a form of cancer) becomes less severe or temporarily "goes away." Remission may occur spontaneously, or be triggered by drug treatment such as chemotherapy. A remission rate refers to what percent of people can be expected to go into remission. Remission rates vary among the different forms of cancer.
