RADIAL KERATOTOMY - Surgery to correct mild to moderate nearsightedness. Usually performed under local anesthesia a series of delicate incisions are made around the cornea. This serves to flatten the center of the cornea and refocus the image on the retina. A newer procedure is now being performed with an excimer laser. The laser reshapes the cornea and corrects the vision disturbance.
