PT - A test that measures the blood's ability to coagulate. A deficiency of vitamin K, or vitamin K dependent clotting factors, will result in abnormal prolongation of the prothrombin time. Coumadin (warfarin), given medicinally for anticoagulation, will cause prolongation of the prothrombin time. The regulation Coumadin dosing can be based on PT test results.
