ORAL HYPOGLYCEMIC - Oral medications used to treat type II diabetes (adult onset diabetes). The majority of these agents are sulfonylureas. These medications lower blood sugar by increasing the production of insulin in the pancreas. Examples include: glyburide, glimepiride, glipizide, acetohexamide, glucamide, Diabinese, Diabeta, Micronase, acarbose, metformin hydrochloride, repaglinide, and Glucotrol.
