NSAIDS - A large group of anti-inflammatory agents that work by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins. Examples include: ibuprofen, ketoprofen, piroxicam, naproxen, sulindac, aspirin, choline subsalicylate, diflunisal, fenoprofen, indomethacin, meclofenamate, salsalate, tolmetin, and magnesium salicylate. When possible take these medications with food. Avoid mixing NSAIDs with alcohol. A number of these agents, in reduced strength, are now approved for nonprescription use. The two most common nonprescription NSAIDs are ibuprofen (e.g. Motrin, Nuprin) and naproxen (e.g. Aleve).
