NEPHRON - The functional unit of the kidney consisting of a glomerulus connected to a tubule, consisting of a proximal convoluted portion, loop of Henle, and distal convoluted portion. Urine is formed by filtration in the glomeruli followed by selective reabsorption and secretion by the special cells which line the tubules.
