MONONUCLEOSIS - An infectious, acute, upper respiratory illness that is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Referred to as mono, mononucleosis, infectious mononucleosis, or kissing disease. Common symptoms include sore throat, swollen lymph glands, malaise, and weakness. Physical examination will often reveal tonsillitis. Recovery is in 2-3 weeks with general supportive care.
