LONG QT SYNDROME - The long QT Syndrome is a disorder of the electrical system of the heart. This condition involves the process called repolarization or the recharging of the electrical system after each heart beat. The QT interval is a quantity measured on the electrocardiogram. The duration of the QT interval is a measure of the time required for repolarization to occur. When the QT interval is prolonged it renders patients vulnerable to a very fast, abnormal heart rhythm known as ventricular tachycardia. It also puts them at risk for sudden cardiac death.
