INCISIONAL HERNIA - An abnormal protrusion of internal abdominal contents into a defect or weakness in the abdominal wall adjacent to or within a surgical scar (incision). An incisional hernia may occur within weeks of surgery or not occur until years later. Underlying cause is usually due to poor healing or unresolved infection.
