HELLP SYNDROME - A collection of symptoms that may occur during pregnancy in women with preeclampsia. The symptoms and signs include hemolytic anemia (H), elevated liver enzymes (EL), low platelet count (LP). Approximately 1 out of 10 pregnant women with pre-eclampsia or eclampsia will develop HELLP syndrome. The HELLP syndrome may develop long before the pregnancy reaches term. Not all women with HELLP will also have high blood pressure.
