FIBRATE - A class of medications that appear to lower the concentration of the serum lipoprotein VLDL by affecting their release from the liver, metabolism by enzymes such as lipoprotein lipase, and excretion in the stool. Reduction of VLDL lipoproteins results in lowered triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
