ENTEROVIRUS - A Picornavirus, small, single-stranded RNA virus that can survive in sewage and chlorinated water with organic debris. Asymptomatic infection common. Epidemics of gastroenteritis are common in summer and fall. Oral-fecal transmission and common in children under 9 years.
