ENDOCARDITIS - Inflammation of the heart valves or lining of the heart that occurs secondary to infection. Seen in cases of sepsis, or in those who abuse intravenous (street) drugs. Common symptoms include malaise, fevers, joint pains, and neurologic symptoms (due to the release of septic emboli from the infected heart valves).
