CYTOMEGALOVIRUS - Belongs to the same group of viruses as Herpes simplex. Can cause a latent and asymptomatic infection. More common in children and infants but can be seen in some immunocompromised adults (AIDS patients). Infection in pregnant females can lead to birth defects, mental retardation, and blood disorders.
