CF - CF, or cystic fibrosis, is a recessive gene mutation that results in a disease process that causes fibrosis (destruction) of the lungs and pancreas. This leads to an ineffective immunologic defense against bacteria in the lungs. Complications include repeated respiratory infections, pancreatic insufficiency, and intestinal malabsorption. CF is diagnosed using the sweat chloride test.
