ACUTE DYSTONIC REACTION -
Prolonged muscle contractions that may cause twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal posture. These reactions may occur in the form of rhythmic jerks, eye twitching, protrusion of the tongue, jaw pulled up or down, twisting of the neck, abnormal deviations of the eyes, slurred speech, and facial grimacing. Generally seen as an extrapyramidal effect from antipsychotic medications, such as the phenothiazines (e.g. Chlorpromazine, Promethazine), Haldol, metoclopramide (Reglan), and some drugs used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The symptoms can be reversed with Benadryl (generally administered intravenously).
