ACHALASIA - Constriction of the lower portion of the food pipe (esophagus) due to inability of the muscles to relax. Symptoms include difficulty swallowing, chest pain, vomiting, and heartburn. Treatment includes esophageal dilation using special instruments or medications (e.g. nitroglycerin, calcium channel blockers).
