5-OH TRYPTAMINE - An assay that measures the amount of serotonin in the bloodstream. Serotonin is measured in cases of suspected carcinoid syndrome (where it will be elevated). This test is performed on a venipuncture specimen. The normal range is 101 to 283 ng/ml. Elevations are seen in carcinoid syndrome.
